What Customers Say About NETGEAR FS608 8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch:

There's really not much to say about it; it works and that's the most important thing. It doesn't take up too much space on my desktop. Really good switch. Has a very nice look to it.

I ordered the stylish white FS608NA as Pictured and described to match my modem But recieved a Gray old style discontinued FS608 V2

So if your company is so cheap that they use home office equipment to run a business, then I guess you will have to live with it, and go weekends to reset the switch/routers.But for my house looks like this combination of 8 port switch and 4 port router with wireless, works great. I am pretty sure there is got to be a difference between them and a good reason that our company uses rack type switches and routers, and I would too if I could afford them. I was not really a fan of the Netgear, however after the last purchase I may become one.I had an older Linksys 8-port router that worked great for a few years, however after the last storm it stopped working. So I replaced it with a new D-Link router which died just a couple of weeks later. So back to the store, and I got a Netgear Wireless router with a 4-port built in switch (WGR 614) and this 8 port switch, the FS-608 to expand the ports to accommodate all my wired rooms, network printer, backup drive etc The switch itself works great and was very easy to installIn fact I would not call it truly installing it as you just plug the cables in any order, and it just worksThe fact that it looks exactly the same like the router just makes it so much betterSo far as speed, I am doing quite a bit of e-mailing of large files, printing, run multimedia music and videos, and do backup of large files, all over the network, kids are playing video games on line, and I notice no slow down or any kind of problems with it.Also I asked my children (one teenage one in her 20-s) to come and listen to it, and no one can hear any noise To those who are complaining about problems on cascading the switches, in office environment, may I make a note:When I bought this switch, there were about 20 other kind of switches at prices between $15 to over $200. At one end were no name cheap plastic boxes so light that seemed empty, and at the other end were steel boxes made for rack connection for office applications.

But no traffic passing through. All lights work fine. when a cable plugged in, the ports lighting up fine. I have this switch behind a DSL modem. I was hoping if it died, at least the light also off, so that I could know it is this switch's fault. The unit is nice looking and running cool. However, it suddently stopped sending traffic through it today, even all the lights are working fine. Since DSL speed is only 8Mb/s, the 10/100 speed is plenty. I powered down all the computers and reboot DSL modem many times, could not find anything wrong -- until I replaced this switch with another one.I don't know what was wrong with it.

I've read similar reports of a high frequency noise in other reviews too, but maybe Netgear has fixed this issue in more recent builds. It's becoming obnoxious enough that I think I'll just replace it with a gigabit switch (something I've been wanting to do anyway). Hub has been functionally great for a couple of years now. However now that I work near it (new office set up) I've noticed it emits a high pitched sound as traffic passes through it.
